NEW WORK


Three new prints have been posted on the Printmaking page: “Screen Test at the Rat Factory,” “The Easy Meat,” and The Worship of Bubbles.”  Two of these are included in the first exhibitions of 2025 (see below).



FIRST EXHIBITIONS OF 2025


Russ will exhibit two etchings, "Spectacularly Efficient Dystopia" and "House Party for Post-Animate Professionals," in Dreamscapes, an exhibition of contemporary Surrealism and work rooted in dreams and altered realities.  This show is hosted by the Tubac Center for the Arts in Tubac, AZ, and will run from February 28 – April 13, 2025.


The aforementioned “Screen Test at the Rat Factory” was selected for inclusion in the 39th Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition at Bradley University, the second-longest-running print and drawing competition in the U.S.  This show will run from February 3 – March 27, 2025.


He will also be represented in the 21st edition of Sixty Square Inches, an exhibition at Purdue University of original prints no larger than sixty square inches.  His etching, "I Awoke in a Place Where the Natives Rose Like Fungus," was selected.  The show will run from January 13 – February 14, 2025.



CLOSING OUT 2024


Russ's digital print, “The Worship of Bubbles,” along with two other prints—“I Awoke in a Place Where the Natives Rose Like Fungus” and “House Party for Post-Animate Professionals”—were part of Echoes of the Unconscious, an exhibition of contemporary surrealism at TAG Gallery, located in the Miracle Mile neighborhood of Los Angeles.  “The Worship of Bubbles" received the Award for Excellence in Digital Art.  The show ran from December 4, 2024 through January 3, 2025.


The Worship of Bubbles” was also included in A Generous Kingdom IX: Art that explores Symbolism, Story, & Beyond at Verum Ultimum Art Gallery in Portland, Oregon.  The show opened with a reception on December 14, 2024 and ran through early January 2025.


OTHER EXHIBITIONS FROM 2024


Russ was one of 25 artists from the USA to be represented in the prestigious Biennale Chianciano 2024 in the Medieval Italian town of Chianciano Terme in Tuscany.  One hundred and ninety-two artists from 41 countries were featured in the Museo d'Arte di Chianciano Terme and the Clancianum Galleries—a group of 13 galleries around the town.  Russ's etching, “House Party for Post-Animate Professionals,” was selected for inclusion in the exhibition.  The show ran from August 3–18, 2024.


His digital print, “The Hidden Rites of Rabid Academics,” was included in Digital Art, Assemblage, and Hand-Cut Paper Collage II at Limner Gallery in Hudson, NY.  The show ran from June 20 – July 13, 2024.


This print was also awarded an Honorable Mention in the fourth annual juried North American exhibition Digital Directions held at the Maryland Federation of Art's Circle Gallery from January 31 through February 24, 2024.  Hear the juror, French-American artist and professor Laurence Arcadius attempt to parse the mystery of this image in this video.
